Fares

LA Metro operates a light rail system ("Metro") and a system of bus routes throughout Los Angeles County. It has a standard fare of $1.50. You pay this each time you board a bus -- that is, there are no transfers between Metro operated services. Reduced fares of 55 cents are available for disabled and passengers 62 or older. For Metro rail lines you must have a TAP card.

For certain freeway routes there can be a surcharge of up to $1.40 for regular riders and up to 60 cents for senior/disabled.

Day Pass

You can purchase a day pass for $5 but it must be placed on a TAP (Transit Access Pass) card. This is reusable "smart card" that can be loaded with cash value or day passes. You can purchase the card from the driver (or Transit Vending Machine) for $1. It is good on all Metro bus and rail lines.

Other Options

You can also purchase a 7 day pass for $20. It is good on all Metro bus and rail lines.

Transfers

While you cannot purchase a transfer to another Metro line, you can purchase a transfer to another Transit Agency. These are 35 cents (10 cents for senior/disabled) and are good on Santa Monica, Culver City, Beach City Transit and Torrance Transit (among others).
